Among the crime fiction writers, Mark Billingham is considered as the most popular in UK. In most of the crime fiction, we come across a detective or police officer and a culprit. A chain of victims connect them by a series of events like murder, accidents etc. Characterization of Mark Billingham  is unique in one way or other. He had a firsthand experience of being a hostage at gun point. He gives a thorough experience of victim’s emotions and experiences. His novels have dark shade but portray less violence as the plot progresses.

He conceptualized Detective Inspector Tom Thorne in 2001. His novels featuring D.I. Tom Thorne are hugely popular. Tom Thorne’s fiction won him Sherlock Award for the best British detective and Crime Novel of the year award. His books are among the Sunday times top ten best seller consistently. Cry Baby is the new book which is slated to be released in july 2020. This book is 17^th book of Tom Thorne.

अमृता इमरोज  पेंग्विन बुक्स द्वारा प्रकाशित और उमा त्रिलोक द्वारा लिखित एक पुस्तक है जिसमें हिंदी एवं पंजाबी साहित्य की मूर्धन्य लेखिका अमृता और इमरोज के अंतिम दिनों का चित्रण है। अमृता प्रीतम हिंदी और पंजाबी साहित्य की एक ऐसी दीप्तिमान लेखिका और कवयित्री रही है जो किसी परिचय की मोहताज नहीं। उनका जीवन उनके लेखन की तरह अपने वक्त से आगे का जीवन रहा जिसमें दो छोर साहिर लुधियानवी और इमरोज के रूप में उपस्थित रहे और अमृता साहिर लुधियानवी की तरफ अपना झुकाव सारी जिंदगी सारी दुनिया के सामने प्रदर्शित करती रही लेकिन साहिर के जाने के बाद उन्हें ठिकाना मिला इमरोज के पास।

अमृता प्रीतम अपने अंतिम सांसे चाहे दिल्ली में ली हो पर उनकी किताबों में पंजाब महकता रहा है हमेशा अपना जीवन उन्होंने दर्द के प्रतिरूप के तरह माना और उसे इन शब्दों में स्वीकार किया है

इमरोज़ के बारे में अमृता जी बताती हैं कि उन्हें  बीस साल तक लगातार हर दूसरे तीसरे दिन एक सपना दिखाई देता रहा जिसमे एक तरफ जंगल और दूसरी तरफ दरिया था और खिड़की के पास एक व्यक्ति कैनवस पर पेंटिंग कर रहा होता था पूरे 20 साल ऐसा होता रहा लेकिन इमरोज के मिलने के बाद उन्हें सपना कभी नहीं आया जाहिर था कि उनके जीवन में जो दरिया था वह इमरोज़ था।
साहिर लुधियानवी और अमृता के रिश्ते के बारे में  उमा जी बताती है कि
" चौदह साल तक अमृता उसकी छाया में चलती रही दोनों के बीच एक मूक वार्तालाप चलता रहा मैं आता अमृता को अपनी नज्में पकड़ा कर चला जाता कई बार तो अमृता की गली की पान की दुकान तक ही आता पान खाता सोडा पीता और अमृता की खिड़की की तरफ एक बार देख कर लौट जाता"

प्यार में अपनी पहचान को खोना अमृता के लिए कोई प्यार नहीं था। क्योंकि शायद वे मानती थी प्यार किसी व्यक्ति विशिष्ट के अस्तित्व पर आधारित होता है अन्यथा ये आत्म मुग्ध स्थिति के सिवा कुछ नहीं।वे सीधे सपाट शब्दों में कहती हैं:-

जब इमरोज़ से साहिर के बारे में पूछा गया तो उन्होंने साफ मान लिया कि मैंने बिना किसी अहम, तर्क-वितर्क और हिसाब किताब के बिना इसे सच मान लिया। जब कोई सच को समझ लेता है तो सहज हो जाता है। सहज भाव से जीना बड़ा सरल है।

उमा त्रिलोक की लिखी किताब एक जीवंत दस्तावेज है जो अमृता प्रीतम के अंतिम समय के अंतराल का सजीव चित्रण करता है। पढ़ते हुए लगता है कि जैसे हम उनके साथ ही हों। अभी साथ के कमरे से इमरोज आ जाएंगे हाथ में प्याला लिये हुए।

Ankush Saikia : Remember Death

 Remember Death is a thriller written by Ankush Saikia who belongs to Assam who has a long career in journalism and have written some thrilling novels like The girl from nongrim Hills and Dead meat. This novel is published by Penguin India and the cover is interestingly design by Devangana Das and Abhishek Chaudhary.

This novel is about private detective Vikram Arora ,a middle aged man of 42 whose body have starting to show the sign of disintegration due to his various Adventures in the past. He had an Army background so he has some scars from the past on the body and the soul as well.

Ankush Saikia has created a character who is quite mortal yet found himself in the middle of mysterious affairs which can lead to his final destination that is death. This novel has different story tracks which leads to the events which have happened in 1950 and 60s.

The story revolves around Agnes Pereira, a former air hostess who is wanted by some high-profile persons and they engage private detective Arjun Arora to track her. Arjun Arora starts his investigation and finally track her in The Hills of Manali where he encounter the glimpses of deaths along with Agnes Pereira in the mountain valleys of Manali. Right from the starting the story moves from sea shores of Goa to the Hills of Manali and to Bombay and then in Delhi.

Initially the tempo of the story is very slow and it gains  some momentum  when Arjun Arora starts its investigation  about the past of Agnes. It Leeds him to The Secret past of three generations of lost movie star of yesteryears Munni. The Mysterious disappearance of Munni is a curious case of investigation which is related to the president of Agnes Pereira. This journey leads Arjun Arora to Lucknow where he faces the surviving past of the heroine. There is a lot of characters like Kailash Swami, Sunny Chadda, Viswanathan, Vikas which are related to the mysterious happenings in the life of a prominent political leader of the past Dinesh Chadda. A murder in a cottage of Mumbai of a bar dancer Savitri is the point where this all starts and interesting story of mistaken identity starts.

Here the plot wise the novel is a good combination of various plots and subplots related to the past of Agnes prayer and Arjun Arora. There is parallel track of family relationships between Arjun Arora his wife Saloni and his daughter Rhea. Although story is very slow in the beginning but when it catches it's Track then it is adventurous as well as action packed. The psychological dealing of Main character is very appropriate and relevant as a character of a middle aged men worried about he is marital future and aimless journey to the future. Agnes Pereira is portrayed as a meek, submissive and insecure women who unintentionally evokes the Wrath of a group of people who are sitting pretty at the top of social Strata. They become enemy of Aegnes when there Mighty position in society comes under question. A lot of print is devoted in the novel about the appetite and alcoholic tendencies of Arjun Arora and here Ankush Saikia as shown his liking to the great variety of Indian and western cuisine. There are minor characters like Lisa and Chandu as the personal secretary and handyman of Arjun Arora for minor cases to deal with. In the end we can say that Ankush Saikia is successful in creating an interesting mystery in Remember Death although it is slowly paced in the beginning as it deals with psychological portrayal of its main protagonist Arjun Arora. The novel qualified for the one time reading only.

सबसे पहले तो एक डिस्क्लेमर सबके समक्ष रखना चाहूंगा कि मैं कोई सर्टिफाइड समीक्षक नहीं हूँ  और इस  ब्लॉग पर मैं जो किताब अपनी खून पसीने की कमाई से खरीदता हूँ  उसके बारे मैं निष्पक्ष राय रखने की कोशिश करता हूँ जितना मैं समझ पाता हूँ और आप मेरी राय से इत्तेफाक रखें ये जरुरी तो नहीं, पर हम बात तो कर ही सकते हैं पुस्तकों के बारे में।

  यहां मैं श्री संतोष पाठक द्वारा लिखे गए उपन्यास दस जून की रात के बारे मैं, जो मैंने अभी अभी पढ़ा है, के बारे मैं बात करना चाहूंगा। सूरज पॉकेट बुक्स के नए नवेले सेट में यह उपन्यास प्रकाशित हुआ है और ये बात मुझे एक बार फिर माननी पड़ेगी की उपन्यास को एक बेहतर एवं स्तरीय साज सज्जा के साथ पाठकों के सामने प्रस्तुत किया गया है।  आवरण पृष्ठ पर  कार्टून टाइप के चरित्र चित्रण से बचकर एक रहस्य्मयी रात का सन्नाटा दिखता हुआ कलेवर है जो उपन्यास के नाम से मेल खाता हुआ है। सूरज पॉकेट बुक्स ने रहस्य रोमांच और अपराध को अपना जॉनर चुना है और इस विधा की पुस्तकों को लुगदी प्रकाशन के अभिशाप से छुटकारा दिलाकर उच्च क्वालिटी के कागज पर छपी पुस्तके अब पाठकों तक पहुंचने का जिम्मा सफलता पूर्वक निभाया है। इस प्रयास में यह प्रकाशन इंग्लिश भाषा में इसी जॉनर की पुस्तकों को प्रकाशित करने वाले कई नामचीन प्रकाशकों से इक्कीस ही है कमतर तो बिलकुल भी नहीं।

        संतोष पाठक ने यह उपन्यास थ्रिलर उपन्यास के रूप में  लिखा है जिसमे आपको उनके रचे गए पात्र प्राइवेट जासूस विक्रांत गोखले या खोजी पत्रकार आशीष गौतम के दर्शन नहीं होंगे। यही इस उपन्यास की खास बात है। इससे पहले के संतोष पाठक के  उपन्यासों में मनोरंजक उपन्यास जगत के वट वृक्ष शक्शियत सुरेंदर मोहन पाठक की झलक साफ़ नजर आती थीऔर इस बात को संतोष पाठक ने ईमानदारी से स्वीकार भी किया है। । इससे पहले के उपन्यास क़त्ल का पहेली में संतोष पाठक ने आपकी अलग जमीं खोजने की शुरुआत कर दी थी और प्रस्तुत उपन्यास दस जून की रात में  यकीनी तौर पर उन्होंने उस प्रभाव से मुक्त होने में  सफलता प्राप्त की है।

             दस जून की रात  इंस्पेक्टर सतपाल सिंह के लिए क़यामत की रात साबित होती है  वो इसलिए कि पुलिसिया रोब मे वो अनजाने में एकऐसे शक्स  को एक लाश की शिनाख्त के लिए बुला बैठता है जो एक पनौती  है!!!!! जी हाँ !!!! पनोती !!! यही नाम है इस उपन्यास के नायक विशाल सक्सेना का जो उसके करीबी  लोगों ने दिया है।  विशाल सक्सेना एक पच्चीस साल का युवक है जिसके सर से बाप का साया उठने के बाद उसकी मां  ने उसका पालन पोषण  नौकरी करते हुए किया है। विशाल क्रिमिनोलॉजी  और पुलिस एडमिनिस्ट्रेशन में पोस्ट ग्रेजुएट है , बॉक्सिंग और निशानेबाजी का चैंपियन है।
 संतोष पाठक ने एक ऐसा चरित्र गढ़ा है जो दो विपरीत ध्रुवों का संगम है। वह बुद्धिमान होते हुए अहमक हो  सकता है और अहमकाना हरकत करते हुए निहायत चतुराई से दूसरे को गच्चा भी दे सकता है। पढ़ा लिखा पर बेतरतीब मस्त मौला है  परन्तु दूसरों के लिए है पनौती। इंस्पेक्टर सतपाल खुद कबूल करता है कि "सच तो ये है कि मैंने इसके जैसा सीधा सादा , मक्कार ,कुशाग्र बुद्धि वाला बेवकूफ , नर्मदिल बेरहम , किस्मत वाला बदकिस्मत आदमी ताजिंदगी  नहीं देखा।''
इस पनौती को बुला बैठता है इंस्पेक्टर सतपाल सिंह। जो रात विशाल को उसके जीवनसाथी संजना कुलकर्णी से मिलवाने वाली  थी उसी रात को विशाल का सामना होता है एक लड़की की लाश से जिसे विशाल उर्फ़ पनोती नहीं जानता और पुलिस कहती है कि लड़की उसकी जानकार है क्योंकि लड़की ने मरने से पहले पनौती को कई बार फ़ोन किये थे। यहीं जो कहानी रफ्तार पकड़ती है तो रुकने का नाम नहीं लेती।
कहानी में बड़े रोचक मोड़ हैं और खतरनाक भी इतने हैं कि इंस्पेक्टर सतपाल खुद सलाखों के पीछे पहुँच जाता है और इल्जाम होता है  स्थानीय बाहुबली महावीर सिंह के एक विश्वास पात्र  प्यादे के खून का।  इसी घटना क्रम में फरीदाबाद की पुलिस होती है अपने नायक पनोती  उर्फ़ विशाल के पीछे जो हर हाल मैं उसे पकड़ना चाहती है । फिर शुरू होता है घाट और प्रतिघात का सिलसिला जिसमे पनौती की जान पर बन आती है। पनोती को अब कातिल भी खोजना है , अपनी जान भी बचानी है और इंस्पेक्टर सतपाल सिंह के साथ वो जिस बर्र के छत्ते में हाथ दे बैठता है उससे निपटना भी है।
                दस जून की रात एक मर्डर निस्ट्री तो है ही साथ में एक एक्शन पैक्ड थ्रिलर भी है।  बहुत दिनों के बाद कोई ऐसा उपन्यास हाथ में आया जिसके चरित्र साकार  होकर आपके साथ चलने लगे हो। प्रत्येक चरित्र को संतोष पाठक एक अलग रंग में रंगने में कामयाब रहे है चाहे वो निक्की हो या नेहा, संजना हो या आशा। मुश्ताक , विक्रम सैनी, ओमकार सिंह, इंस्पेक्टर राघव सब अपनी जगह जमे हैं यहाँ तक कि पनौती की दोस्त सुचित्रा अपने चुलबुलेपन की छाप छोड़ जाती है।   उम्मीद है यह से उपन्यासकार संतोष पाठक का  वो सफर शुरू होगा जिसकी उनके पाठकों को आस है। उनका  यह चरित्र विशाल सक्सेना उर्फ़ पनौती आगे आने वाले समय में हो सकता है ऐसे लोगों को इन्साफ दिलाने वाला हो जो आम जान जीवन से आते है और अपराध जगत से जिनका कोई वास्ता न हो। 
 इस उपन्यास का नायक विशाल सक्सेना आम अदना सा नागरिक है लेकिन एकदम से वायलेंट हो कर कानून को  अपने हाथ में लेना अखरता है और उसके द्वारा काम जिस परिस्थतियों में हुए हैं तत्कालीन रूप से सहीं लग सकते हैं पर न्यायोचित हैं या नहीं इस विमर्श से संतोष पाठक जी ने परहेज किया है। उनके दूसरे उपन्यासों के मुकाबले दस जून की रात में पनौती द्वारा इस्तेमाल की गयी भाषा संयमित और मर्यादा की सीमा में है जो इस किताब का प्लस पॉइंट है और सुरेंदर मोहन पाठक की छाया  से कुछ हद तक उनको दूर करने में कामयाब रहा है। 
   कुल मिला कर उपन्यास रोचक और पाठकों की कसौटी पर जिसकी खरा उतरने की प्रबल सम्भावनाहै और संग्रहणीय श्रेणी का स्तर है।

Qatl ki paheli (कत्ल की पहेली) : Santosh Pathak

 The book under review and 1st of 2019 is Qatl ki Paheli  by Santosh Pathak (you can say the mystery of a murder). The main protagonist of the novel is Vikrant Gokhale who is on a mission for his client Sahil Bhagat but circumstances changes adversely and Sahil Bhagat lands into jail for murdering his wife as he caught on spot by police. A watertight case is registered against Sahil Bhagat and Vikrant Gokhale faces a huge and Uphill task to save his client. In this context Vikrant Gokhale comes in contact with various characters and story and Plot becomes more murkier and complex as the story progress forward. A spree of Murder happens where Murderer leaves no clues for Vikrant Gokhale. As the novel is a murder mystery so it is not appropriate for me to elaborate the story further. The story has inspector Chauhan and a lawyer Neelam Tomar who are on the side of Vikram Gokhale and have their own views about the proceedings.

The  publisher of the book is Suraj Pocket Books who has successfully presented in nice package but have some proof errors which can be avoided. 
As far as Santosh Pathak, who is author of many mystery books including Aakhri Shikar, Maut ki dastak, khatarnaak Sajish and Andekha Khatra is concerned, is successful in creating a mysterious murder mystery. The story line of Qatl ki Paheli is so complicated that in the last Vikram Gokhale is also puzzled along with inspector Chauhan to solve the issue. The author is rightly says that you cannot find out the culprit till the end of the novel because there are so many subplots and so many motives which aur intelligently interwoven to create a well knit and  interesting story.
The characterization of Vikrant Gokhale remind us private detective Sudhir Kohli of Surendra Mohan Pathak as Santosh Pathak admits himself that he is largely inspired by Surendra Mohan Pathak, the iconic great story teller of Indian Pulp Fiction. Surendra Mohan Pathak has played a great great role in refining the taste and standard of readers of Pulp Fiction based on which the writers like Chetan Bhagat, Ashwin Sanghi, Ravi Subramanian, Mukul Deva and Vish dhamija are creating new frontiers of popular or you can say Pulp Fiction. A great League of new and aspiring writers like Santosh Pathak Vikram E Diwan Kanval Sharma are taking forward  the torch lightened by the authors like Ved Prakash Sharma and Surendra Mohan Pathak.
Santosh Pathak as shown the great ability to write in detail the conversation between his characters. He could have taken care of using the Tu-Tadaak language between Vikram Gokhale and Neelam Tomar or between Vikram Gokhale and Inspector Chauhan. He can use the world Tum instead of Tu because it will lend some respectibility to the characters. 
In future the Vikram Gokhale should be either completely corrupt morally or more responsible like Sunil because in this novel he is verbally sounds like Sudhir of SMP but in the end act like Sunil where he returns the flat to it's owner. Here I believe that he should be either white or completely black as the grey shaded character will be difficult to be justified as there is an instant smooching incident between Vikram Gokhale and Meeta in laters flat. 
Although Qaitl ki Paheli is a murder mystery where we are dealing with the peoples suffering from lust and greed but author in my view should show some restrain to portray every woman as eager to oblige his private detective. Apart from that Vikram Gokhale is an enduring, courageous and fully devoted to his duty and looks more mortal then is others contemporaries in detective field.
Santosh Pathak ji will surely produce another Ace in future which will be starkly different from his previous works which we are eagerly waiting.

Warlock: Vickram E Diwan

 " Don't be deceived, God is not mocked,

For whatever a men sows, that he will also reap."

    Warlock  is a fictional book written by Vickram E Diwan. The genre of the book is horror and occult. It is a good presentation of Sooraj Pocket Books. The cover page is beautifully designed and self explanatory about the possibility of contents of story.

      The book or story is divided in the  two volumes 1) The Circus and 2) The Nemesis. The story is spread out in thirteen chapters and revolves around Rudolf Schonherr, the main protagonist of Austrian lineage. He has dark history of family and disturbed childhood which leads to him to the dark world of satanic forces. The other main protagonist Payal who is struggling and aspiring actress who is preparing herself to get her share of success. Her world is shattered by an unforeseen circumstances which leads her to the brink of death. The story is build up for confrontation of two forces where battle line is drawn between Right and evil forces. As more discussion about story can kill the surprise elements for the readers so let it be.

     The author has attempted to provide an  glamorous look and feeling to the book and quite successful in this attempt and publisher seems to be positive about this. 

Vickram E Diwan is successful in creating a mysterious world of warlock and masterfully engaged his readers throughout the struggle of Payal in evil "circus". Author has complete command on webbing an interesting story and exhibits mastery over expression through language.

     The warlock will be completed in the second part which Vickram could have avoided as vol 2 Nemesis could have been edited more strictly. The episode of Shalini and Vincent Costello aka Danny seems to be irrelevant to story. It is usual practice of Hindi pocket books to spread story in two or three volumes  but it is not favourable to readers as I was also disappointed to see to be continued....

      The characterisation by Vickram E Diwan is out of box especially of colonel B D Narang, Tantrik Bharoo and Twinkle. It will be interesting to know how  will they forge a war in favour of Payal despite of all of their physical frailties against Warlock.

   I give full marks to author for avoiding undue sexual depiction  in his story and using a dignified explanation of events where he could have elaborated the flashy events to spice up the story.

      Last but not least, Warlock is pacy story which have basic element of struggle between good and evil.

"द साइलेंट मर्डर" संतोष पाठक जी का लिखा हुआ एक नवीनतम उपन्यास है। यह उपन्यास "आशीष गौतम सीरीज" का उपन्यास है । कोरोना कॉल में संतोष पाठक जी ने अपने पाठकों को एक के बाद एक बेहतरीन तोहफा दिया है। यह उपन्यास एक Who Done It किस्म का उपन्यास है। इस उपन्यास में पत्रकार आशीष गौतम की एक महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका है।

कहानी:-

कहानी की शुरुआत में एक धनाड्य व्यक्ति रमेश भंडारी की नौकरानी कोमल सामंता सुबह उसके घर में नाश्ता देने के लिए जाती है । रमेश भण्डारी द्वारा कोई जवाब ना मिलने पर उसे किसी अनहोनी की आशंका होती है । वह उसके परिवार वालों को बुलाती है। उसके पुत्र प्रकाश और अविनाश पुलिस को सूचना देते हैं और पुलिस इंस्पेक्टर सुधीर राय के आने पर सब इंस्पेक्टर अनिल रावत मकान का या कहें उस कमरे का दरवाजा बड़ी मुश्किल से तोड़ा जाता है । कमरे के अंदर धनकुबेर रमेश भंडारी मृत पाया जाता है।

 

उसकी मेडिकल हिस्ट्री के अनुसार वह हार्ट पेशेंट था और सभी यही मानते हैं कि रात को किसी वजह से उस व्यक्ति को हार्ट-अटैक आया होगा और उसने अपने परिवार से सहायता मांगने की कोशिश की होगी लेकिन अंधेरे और हार्ट-अटैक के दर्द की वजह से वो उसमें कामयाब नहीं हो पाया था। इंस्पेक्टर  सुधीर इसे एक सीधी-सादी हार्ट अटैक से हुई मौत की संज्ञा देता है। लेकिन तब इस कहानी में पदार्पण होता है। आशीष गौतम का और वह जब इस बारे में तहकीकात करनी शुरु करता है तो उसे शक होता है कि रमेश भण्डारी अपनी आई मौत नहीं मरा था, बल्कि उसे किसी ने जबरन रुखसत कर दिया था। आशीष गौतम के सद्के रमेश भण्डारी का दोबारा पोस्टमार्टम होता है ।उसके बाद रहस्य की परतें परत दर परत खुलती चली जाती हैं और फिर यह सीधी-सादी मौत एक साइलेंट मर्डर का केस लगना शुरू हो जाती है । अपनी तहकीकात पूरी करते हुए आशीष अंत में इस केस को सुलझाने में कामयाब रहता है।

महत्वपूर्ण पात्र:- 

 इस कहानी के अंदर रमेश भंडारी के अलावा कुछ और अहम पात्र हैं जो पूरी कहानी में आपके साथ रहते हैं । जिसमें रमेश भंडारी के दोनों पुत्र अविनाश और प्रकाश, उसका दामाद रवि कांत, डॉक्टर अनिल अस्थाना, फोरेंसिक एक्सपर्ट पावन मिश्रा,  वकील हरिदास गोस्वामी,  विधायक महिपाल सिंह, विधायक का पुत्र विप्लव सिंह, पुलिस इंस्पेक्टर सुधीर राय  और उसका सहायक अनिल रावत, मेड कोमल सामंता, राम परसाद, असगर अहमद और अनिल त्रिपाठी  । 

आशीष गौतम की तहकीकात उपन्यास में उपस्थित प्रत्येक पात्र की जांच पड़ताल करती है, जिसमें उसका मुख्य फोकस अविनाश, रविकांत और प्रकाश पर रहता है साथ में उसके शक के दायरे में है विप्लव सिंह ।  संतोष पाठक जी ने इस कहानी में एक मेडिकल ट्विस्ट भी डाला है जो पाठकों को पसंद आएगा। कहानी के बारे में हम ज्यादा बातें नहीं करते हैं क्योंकि यह एक सपोइलर के रूप में कार्य कर सकता है। अतः आखिर में गुनहगार कौन है यह आप उपन्यास पढ़ कर ही पता लगाएं तो ज्यादा मुनासिब रहेगा ।

मेरी राय:-

अब हम इस उपन्यास के कुछ महत्वपूर्ण पहलुओं पर बात करते हैं :

 

1) सबसे पहले इस उपन्यास की साज-सज्जा।  यह उपन्यास व्हाइट पेपर में और एक आकर्षक मुखपृष्ठ के साथ थ्रिल वर्ल्ड पब्लिकेशन ने छापा है। पेपर क्वालिटी और प्रिंटिंग अव्वल दर्जे की है जो  पाठकों के लिए बहुत हर्ष का विषय हो सकते हैं। 

 2) संतोष पाठक जी की लेखनी दिन प्रतिदिन और सुदृढ़ होती जा रही है । कहानी, चरित्र चित्रण और घटनाक्रम पर संतोष पाठक जी की मजबूत पकड़ है। अब उनके चरित्र पाठकों के दिमाग में अपनी अलग अलग छवि बना लेते हैं, जिससे कहानी का मजा दुगना हो जाता है।

3) अश्लीलता और गाली गलौज की भाषा से उन्होंने इस उपन्यास को पूर्ण रूप से मुक्त रखा है।

पर इस उपन्यास में कुछ ऐसी बातें हैं खटकती भी हैं कि जैसे मकतूल रमेश भंडारी का विधायक महिपाल के नौकरों के नाम पर बेनामी संपत्ति लेना। क्योंकि पाठक जी ने यह चित्रित किया है कि विधायक महिपाल और रमेश भंडारी की आपस में नहीं बनती है । उनका उस घर को लेकर के विवाद था या मनमुटाव है जिसमें भंडारी मृत पाया जाता है। उसी महिपाल सिंह के नौकरों के नाम पर कोई व्यक्ति बेनामी संपत्ति क्यों खरीदेगा? क्या उसे पता नहीं कि यह दोनों नौकर महिपाल सिंह के हैं?  वह इस संपत्ति के सौदों के लिए अपने दामाद रवि कांत पर भरोसा करता है,  जिसे वह पसंद नहीं करता । यह मुझे थोड़ा अटपटा लगा,क्योंकि संपत्ति की खरीद में हम आम तौर पर अपने विश्वासपात्र लोगों से ही बात करते हैं ।

दूसरा जो पॉइंट है कि स्ट्रॉ का उनके घर के भीतर बाउंड्री के अंदर मिलना । यह कथाकार की अपनी सुविधा हो सकती है कि वह अपने घटनाक्रम को किस प्रकार दिखाता है और चीजों को कैसे बरामद होता हुआ दिखाता है, लेकिन इस बात की जस्टिफिकेशन हमें नहीं मिलती। अगर गली में ही मिलता तो क्या आशीष का ध्यान खींचने में कामयाब होता? 

अगर पूरे उपन्यास के कथानक पर बात की जाय तो मेरी राय में यह एक पठनीय उपन्यास है। कहानी का नायक आशीष गौतम 'खबरदार' अखबार में चीफ रिपोर्टर है। कहानी एक स्थापित ढर्रे पर चलती प्रतीत होती है। फिर भी संतोष जी शुरू से ही इसमें रोचकता बनाये रखने में कामयाब रहे हैं।

अगर हम उपन्यास को पूर्ण रूप से देखें तो एक मनोरंजक उपन्यास संतोष पाठक जी ने प्रस्तुत किया है जिसे उनके पाठक भरपूर पसंद करेंगे ।

Killing Ashish Karve is a murder mystery written by Salil Desai. It is an Inspector Saralkar mystery. The first edition was published as The Body in the Back Seat by Gyaana Books in 2011. This edition is published by Fingerprint. Salil Desai is a pune base author. He is also linked to film industry as a film maker. His other books are Three and half murder, Sane Psychopath etc. 

Story Idea: K.A.K. is a cop story where Inspector Saralkar is entangled in a tricky murder mystery. This story starts from the misadventure of a car thief, Javed, who tries to steal a car. When he found that along with car, he has collected a dead body also, he abandons the car and flee away. Car remains stated their for a couple of days. People of that area complained about this car. Traffic police toes this car to police station where after some time this unclaimed dead body is discovered. It is the body of Ashish Karve. " If this is a joke, you have had it," Tapkir swore, and proceeded to look through the glass. Ashish Karve certainly didn't present a pretty sight after nearly three days at the bottom of the back seat.".... page no.21  

After getting a unclaimed body, Inspector Saralkar starts investigations. At first look, this case looks like a case of suicide attempt. Later on Inspector motkar starts investigation. During his investigation, he put lots of questions to the family members and colleagues of Ashish Karve. After the discovery of dead body of Ashish Karve, Inspector Saralkar narrows down his investigation on his business partner, wife and his brother. But his investigations do not get any conclusive results. During his investigation another murder occurs. Beautiful lady who is coworker of Ashish Karve found murdered in her apartment. The point of suspension also points to the the father of Ashish Karve who is an ex-army man. In the end, Saralkar solve the murder mystery amicably by observing a minute point when a local thief Javed get arrested.

My point of view: In my point of you, writer Salil Desai has produced sleek, interesting and beautifully written story. The characterization of Ashish Barve, Jaydeep karve, his business Associates, wife of Ashish karve is beautifully done. Even the son of Ashish Karve get his due space in this story in the middle story seems to be a bit slow where inspector motka does some question answers aur interviewed two different candidates but it is a demand of story if a storyteller necklace this point then there will be no clarity in further incidents of narration as a reader I enjoyed this book ok and it can be collected because in my point of view it is more than one time read you can revisit this book after sometime sofa my detailed point of you you can visit my YouTube channel book hub which is is connected to my block and a link is given below

Daniel Silva is one of the best selling authors and number one New York Times best selling author who first marked his impression in 1997 with his novel The Unlikely Spy. From 2001, he started a new series with his novel The Kill Artist. This series is Gabriel Allon Series . The New Girl is the 19th novel of this series and the latest of the series. This novel is sub-divided into five parts-- Abduction, Abdication, Absolution, Assassination and Vengeance.

                                  What's done cannot be undone.---- Macbeth

Abduction......The New Girl is the latest offering of Daniel Silva which involves Gabriel Allon, who is an artistic curator and chief of Israeli investigating agency. The novel start with the introduction of  a mysterious girl twelve year old girl Jihan Tantawi in International School of Geneva. His father is Adnan Tantawi is mysterious billionaire who supposed to own half of the Cairo. But despite all of concealment and secrecy this girl Jihan got kidnapped. This event lead to a multinational saga of deceit and conflict between different international investigating agency. In this part, three main protagonists are introduced. Sarah Bancroft and Gabriel Allon are main characters and a mystery unfolds as Girl who is kidnaped is Reema who is Daughter of none other than KBM i.e. Crowned Prince of Saudi Arab Khalid bin Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. After that Daniel Silva weaves a plot which have various angles of Middle East politics, Brexit and assassination of a International Correspondent Omar Nawwaf. After meeting KBM where Sarah plays an important role to arrange a meeting, Gabriel entangles himself into a multinational and multi layered plot.

Abdication....... is the part two. Here the plot of novel thickens and pick up its race. As the heading of the part indicates that what is going to happen in the life of crowned prince Khalid bin Mohammed. His detractors plan was beyond the imagination of Gabriel but KBM pays a price of his policies and end of this section is quiet sensational and unpredictable.

Absolution ...... is third part where story takes a new leap after abdication which involves intelligence agencies of Britain, France, Russia and Gabriel Allon of Israel. This is intricately woven segment which have moves and countermoves of hawks of their field. This chapter introduces Hanifa Khoury, wife of slained reporter Ommar, Rebecca Bettencourt and a lot of others.. here a plan is laid and that is assassination. 

Assassination ..... is fourth segment which I can say is highly engrossing for readers at least true for me. A mission which is plotted to checkmate Gabriel Allon but he is a master of his own field . Here, I prefer not to elaborate this segment further.

Vengeance ..... is the final part of novel where Gabriel Allon is in full command of events which ultimately expose the men behind the whole mission. Here the title new girl is justified but it is not for Reema, the daughter of KBM.

First of all, I must confess that The New Girl is first novel of Daniel Silva which I Happened to read and it is latest of Gabriel Allon series. Why I am saying this ? Because it was difficult for a new reader to get hooked to story as some characters like Sarah, Mikhail, Rousseau etc are in continuity. So, it took some time get engaged in this story but if you stick to go through the first part then events get you involved and you do not feel an outsider. As Daniel Silva is a international best seller but story build up seems to un event full after the kidnap of Reema. About more than hundred pages are used just to describe the movement of its characters from one place to another place where it is very difficult to stay focussed by reader.

My View:

 In my view, Daniel Silva has delivered a complete package which may be lethargic in beginning but  in the end you feel satisfied and do not regret of this book. If you are ardent fan of him, then definitely you may enjoy more as you stay with plot.


The New Girl is complete in its term but Daniel Silva has left the ending somewhat open. As he has announced his new novel "The Order" which is going to be released in mid of July.

STORY: -

Strip jack is an intense novel written by Ian Rankin. It is fourth novel in the John Rebus series. Like previous plots, this story is also set up in Edinburgh.

Story starts with a raid on a brothel where a local Member of Parliament, Gregor Jack, caught or found in the premises of brothel.  When much-loved politician Gregor Jack is discovered in a midnight raid on a discreet brothel, a surprising number of journalists are on hand--a situation that endangers Jack's political future.  

Rebus has a sympathetic view towards Jack. In his view, he was victim of a conspiracy which is designed to strip him naked in the society without any power and image. In the mean time, a dead body of a woman found in the river and a suspect, William Glass, under police suspicion and Rebus under pressure from his superiors to accept a homeless derelict as the killer of a woman found in the river. There are too many unanswered questions for Rebus. Like B why was he at that particular brothel at that particular time? And why was the press on the scene practically at the same time as the police? Rebus is an experienced cop who knows the  ways of the politicians and the criminals. For him, there are too many questions and too few answers.

Ian Rankin's Strip Jack

Jack ‘s personal life with his wife Elizabeth is in sticky situation after his brothel episode. Rebus wants to meet her to know about her reactions and mental state but she is found dead.  Her body is soon pulled from a nearby river, a fatality resembling the recent murder of another, unidentified woman. A drunk who brags of the first killing gives a false address and vanishes north of the city. From here, a saga of investigations unravels where many sub plots are intricately woven with main plot. Rebus comes to know about ‘The Pack’ which is group of young friends of Jack and Elizabeth. Each character is now settled in the society in different manners, be it a movie star, transporter or a mental patient. Meanwhile Rebus, trying to trace a cache of valuable stolen books, finds himself talking again to the late Elizabeth's coterie of party friends.

Rankin has been able to create a realistic world in which his weary protagonist operates. He tackles his cases while involved in the intricacies of the day-to-day life: pints, coffee and hangovers, stumbling romance with patience (his girlfriend), wet weather, damp clothes, arrogant superiors and indifferent subordinates. “After all of his stubbornness and failure of judgments, Rebus closes in on the satisfying solution. Then, the idea of a quick bath appealed. He looked into the kitchen first, and saw that Mrs. Wilkie was busy at the stove, humming to herself. So he headed for the bathroom. There was no lock on the door. Or rather, there was a lock, but half of it was hanging loose” … (page 123)

MY VIEW: -

Since it is my first meeting with John Rebus, my views may contrasting to the others.  Beginning of the story is very interesting.  The first meeting between MP Jack and Rebus was able to generate interest for the future. But after that when rebus investigate about the stolen books or antique books, story become somewhat slow. The story doesn't begin with the murder and it happens in due course of the plot and till then, you only had Rebus wandering, casually talking to the MP who caught, was investigating in a case regarding stolen books and all these also gave time for the author to bring out the character of Patience Aitken.

 The plot was amazing in the begining, moving across several places in Scotland, several characters with different occupation, different background and personality but somehow all of them were connected to the case in some way or the other but at the same time I felt that the number of characters were too many which made the reader hard to hold grip on the events and may  lose track of it. It had nearly everything in it, an enthusiastic, slave-driving police detective with dull superiors and a troubled relationship, a politician in trouble with his associates trying their best to protect him and of course, a very good mystery supported with interesting investigations carried out by the police. But in the end, as a reader I am surprised of the outcome of the result. I can confess that after reading Daniel Silva’s international political and spy drama, Rebus adventures are far more rooted to ground and realistic. 

If you are interested in realistic portrayals and pinch of suspense, than you can read the John Rebus adventures created by Ian Rankin.

Ian Rankin

Ian James Rankin is famous Scottish crime writer, who is born on 28 April, 1960. He is best known for his famous character, Inspector John Rebus. The story and plot of John Rebus novels are set up in Edinburgh, Scotland. He studied literature and graduated from university of Edinburgh. He spent some years in London and France during his establishing careers as novelist.

As happens to most of the novelists, his ambition was to establish himself as mainstream writer, not to be a crime writer. He consider his first novels like Knots and crosses and Hide and Seek as main stream books. His later novels, in which Inspector John Rebus is central character, are major contributions to Scottish Crime Fiction. Later on his novels were adapted as TV series in which actor John Hannah and Ken Stott played as Rebus.

In Rebus novels, Ian Rankin plot involves murders, un-natural deaths and mysterious disappearances where Rebus takes the centre stage investigations. In his novels, Edinburgh is present as a character along with stark realities of corruption, poverty and organized crime.

Apart from crime, Ian Rankin provides struggle of Rebus with internal politics of police department, his tendency to bend the rules and ignorance of his superior. His personal and emotional life is also intricately woven which runs parallel to his crime investigations. In his life, apart from his daughter, Samantha Rebus, five women are involved, i.e., , Rhona ( his separated-wife), Patience Aitkin (ex girlfriend), Gill Templer (his boss), Jean Burchill ( lady friend and friend of Gill Templer) and Deborah Quant (pathologist).
